Possible to edit table of contents depth?

At the moment the table of contents for a lesson shows:

• The episodes of the lesson
• Heading level 2 sections of the episodes

I have not seen in the docs a way to extend the table of contents to also include subsequent heading levels. This would be nice to have as there are times when you would like to be able to quickly navigate to a specific section of an episode that is a subsection of a longer key part — so having additional level 2 heading wouldn't make sense.

Is it possible to edit the depth of the table of contents?

Not as far as I'm aware, no. The sidebar generation is done in the utils-sidebar.R script, so the changes would have to happen there.

@ErinBecker and I discussed this and we felt that a better solution would be to wait until quarto is available as a backend rendering engine, as it can handle arbitrary TOC sidebar depth.

Thanks @froggleston and @ErinBecker. Quarto support would be excellent. Is Issue #161 the correct issue to be tracking for that, or is there a more recent issue / discussion on this?

We don't have a roadmap for quarto because it would be a large amount of work, and we don't have the capacity to address it currently. I am aware that others in the community are interested/looking at quarto so it would be good to try and assess what a potential route forward would be.
