GH Sponsorships gives people a badge on their profile, which is kind of a gamification of donations plus free advertising. win-win?

I want people to donate out of the good of their heart and not support dark patterns, gamification like that is not great. We are doing ok so I feel like people should only give if they really want to support the project

Think the good outweighs the bad still. I'd consider Cemu (and any other game console emulator for that matter) a public good that deserves recognition for its efforts.

If I read the PCSX2 page correctly they use sponsorship money for web hosting and split the rest between contributors. I think it would be pretty difficult to put a dollar amount on each person's contribution and any attempt to formalize rules for that would inherently create a new incentive structure that isn't just "improve Cemu in whatever way you think is worth it". I think in that respect a much better way to fund development is something like a bounty for a specific feature. Though in the case of the one I linked I could see that getting tricky as well, as sometimes when you improve an emulator you may unknowingly be making progress towards the bounty's goal, so it's still unclear who is entitled to the money. Is it the last person who moved Cemu across the finish line? Or should it be split among everyone who unknowingly contributed?

That's just my two cents (pun not intended)
