Resolve TS and ESLint lag in VSCode

Something is making the FE codebase incredibly slow (sometimes takes 5 seconds for TS to run, 15 seconds for ESLint). Figure out what it is.

The culprit is i18next. Trying upgrade here #1585 but not convinced it is actually going to do anything (it's fast on my computer now but might just be because all the Typescript is now broken due to major version update 😢).
