First of all, thank you for the excellent work on Glow. It’s a very useful tool for viewing Markdown in the terminal and has become an essential part of my workflow.
I’d like to propose an improvement: adding support for AsciiDoc (.adoc).
🔎 Motivation
AsciiDoc is an open and free format, widely used in technical documentation, manuals, and software projects.
It offers more advanced features than Markdown (complex tables, cross-references, indexes, admonitions).
Many open-source projects and corporate documentation already rely on it (e.g., Kubernetes, Git, technical books).
✅ Benefits for Glow
Expands Glow’s reach beyond Markdown.
Allows users who work with AsciiDoc to keep a unified workflow in the terminal.
Makes Glow a more versatile tool for technical communities that prefer AsciiDoc.
💡 Possible approaches
Integration with Asciidoctor: delegate rendering to Asciidoctor (Ruby gem) and display the output in Glow.
Internal conversion to Markdown: use a converter (e.g., Pandoc) to transform .adoc → .md before rendering.
Optional plugin: let users enable AsciiDoc support if needed, keeping Glow lightweight by default.
🙋♂️ Question to the community
Would it be feasible to consider AsciiDoc support in future versions of Glow?
Is there interest in having Glow recognize and render .adoc files in a similar way to .md?
Thanks for reading and for all the work you do. I’d be happy to help with testing or documentation if this idea moves forward.
