I heart issues because:

• editable
• email notification
• markdown
• paste screen captures
• emoji
• & more

I would like to use issues for a fair amount of our communication.

Is that OK with you? If you prefer we could do issues in a private repo.

I thought all GitHub users and organizations could have private repositories. It turns out that GitHub Free users may have private repositories and so can paying organizations. Free organizations cannot have private repositories.

I understand the desire and the need for privacy. I am trying to think of a way of maintaining privacy and still having the advantages of communicating via GitHub issues - along with the benefit of not having a single individual as the owner but having a shared ownership.

Membership in an organization can be public or private. My membership is set to public but there are a number of organizations which have zero public members. Teams belonging to organizations can also have members that are private. Therefore you can mention a team name in an issue and all team members public and private will be notified - via email or whatever method the members usually use.

The problem then is that if a member replies to an issue then their username will be visible to the public as a participant in the thread. A possible solution would be for members that wish to be private to create and use a nom de guerre user name and log into their browser using an incognito mode.

A totally different alternative might be to create a fictional GitHub Free user and have the addresses of all the members attached to the fictional user's email settings. GitHub Free allows three GitHub users to communicate via issues in a private GitHub Free repository.
