Migrate to ESM

Important in order to be able to have import scripts which use the latest versions of our parsing / processing libraries, and in general being able to upgrade to latest version of libraries.

That should not be the case. All supported versions of Node.js are able to require() ESM code.

My bad, do you see a good reason to take the time to migrate then or should we just close this?

It can be kept open, but not a priority (unless there are issues like needing top-level await)
