This is likely the same issue as #2157. Script fails on Get-PrivilegedRole. I am running as GA. I get results for AAD minus 7.5, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, and 7.9, which reports:

• The fix for the "Too Many Requests" error you are experiencing was successfully tested by a federal agency yesterday and should be available in our upcoming release.
• The second error in your output "Connect-IPPSSession: Unknown Status: Unexpected" is also being experienced by many other ScubaGear users and users of other tools which rely on Microsoft's ExchangeOnlineManagement module. We are working to replace ScubaGear's dependency on that module. In the meantime, I was working with a user yesterday and I found that if I downgraded their module to version 3.6.0 that resolved the problem. This is a stopgap measure. Here are the instructions if you want to try that:

Run this in a fresh PowerShell window and close all existing PowerShell windows. If you get an error that the module is being used, you might have to reboot:

Uninstall-Module -Name ExchangeOnlineManagement
Verify that you don't have any other versions of that module installed (should be empty return value). If you see more versions you need to keep running the uninstall command above.

Get-Module -ListAvailable ExchangeOnlineManagement

Install older version which seems to temporarily resolve the authentication error:

Install-Module -Name ExchangeOnlineManagement -Requiredversion 3.6.0

The problem you noted with Defender and Get-DlpComplianceRule is likely because the authentication is failing, which is the error message "Error running Connect-IPPSSession". Connect-IPPSSession is used to authenticate to Microsoft Purview (Security & Compliance) cmdlets. If we can get that to work, I'm confident Get-DlpComplianceRule will work.

Thank you. I got past the Defender error by using EXO 3.6. Now I’m back to the AAD error, which I believe you said will be addressed in an upcoming version. @LauraBibel Yes your hunch is correct! The "Too Many Requests" error is associated with the time of day that you execute ScubaGear and how much stress the API servers are under at that time. Let's say you run ScubaGear over the weekend or later in the day when servers tend to be under reduced workload, you may notice that it doesn't produce that error. The fix that we are adding is an automatic retry in the code so that it won't matter when you run it.

Hi @LauraBibel. We added some further tweaks to the code that was causing the "Too many requests" error that should make it run faster, in addition to being resilient to the error. Please try using the branch in my previous comment and let me know how it works for you. Thank you.
