Hi,
I'm writing an Helmchart for deploying Civi on Kubernetes. Is there an interest on getting an PR at this repository for that?

Hey @josaur - certainly interested in any best practice for deploying Civi on Kubernetes.

Want to keep this image as vanilla as possible and don't want to make any changes that would tie it to Kubernetes but happy to explore options.

Yes totally agree to that. As part of the helmchart I would use the Image as it is. There would be no difference if you use, basic docker, docker-compose kubernetes or something else. Of course I would prefer an install routine in side the container, but as I saw you already planed that for the Image.

I asked because in other projects the helmchart is often published together with the docker image. In other projects those files are kept in an second repository. If from your perspective there is any interest for publishing the chart I would be happy to share it, if it's ready

Definitely feel free to share. I have close to zero experience with Kubernetes so wouldn't feel qualified to review a PR but that shouldn't stop you from sharing it.

Are you thinking of this as an example that would point people in the right direction, or a recommended set up, or somewhere in between. For the docker compose example, I've kept it very simple and intentionally not production ready - more just to give you an idea about how to use the image - on the assumption that people have lots of different preferences and requirements for integrating this into their infra.

On the one hand, I am guessing we'll never be able to come up with a completely infra agnostic solution. On the other, the more we can share best practice and recommendations the better.

@josaur This sounds great! We are working on an initiative called "CiviOneClick" - currently we have built a CiviCRM demo launch system based on this docker image and some ansible, but want to do further development towards a Kubernetes-based installation method. Unfortunately, our project came to a halt somehow, but I would be very happy if we would get it forward again.

Maybe you want to get in contact with me directly to sort out things? There are several people in the CiviCRM community that are interested in Kubernetes, and some of them working on it... maybe we should have a meeting on that.

Hi as well @Detsieber and thanks for the interest. I'd Like to get in contact about it and will send you an Mail.

For now I'm running civi in an Wordpress Helmchart which is just pain to handle IT on k8s. For an first start with the official civi docker I planned to write an basic wrapper helmchart using that container with out any special features.

Furthermore I'd like to add some sidecar containers for example mounting an git repository for managing mosaico templates there. As well cornjob execution on k8s level and an subchart for redis would be an option.

As example for managing the charts in an separated repository I'd point to grafana, where they do so https://github.com/grafana/helm-charts
