Easier way to switch languages

I'd like to propose the addition of a tray menu item that allows to switch between maybe two or three languages, because currently I have to go to the settings to switch the languages for the multi-language models. Telling the language the model allows it to be much more precise in transcribing.

I'm not married to the tray menu item idea.If anyone has a better idea to accomplish the same outcome, please propose it.

It would be best to add an option that checks the keyboard layout and sets the language accordingly. This is probably the fastest way to achieve this goal.

That would work, but it would be less platform-agnostic.By the way, I'm on Linux/X11/GNOME. I like your idea, it would be the easiest way for me to switch languages.

I'm starting to like @koloved 's idea more. I think it's more practical and it makes more sense. In the tray menu, I would see two options, auto detect or follow keyboard language.

May I suggest a preference list in settings page too? we don't speak all languages so list all of them will waste our time looking for the right one.
the settings page will serve these purpose

• checkboxes to let user enable target languages. non-checked languages will be hidden:

[x] FR
[x] ZH
[x] EN
[ ] JP

• preference ordering
  not sure if this is possible. so in example above, when the model attempt FR transcribe and return blank result, the app will automatically retry with lower ranked language until success

• and this opens to another cool feature perhaps: model routing mode

  • another settings screen to pick preferred model preference for languages (kinda like presets for lang->model pairing)
  • ui show language picker -> app switch to preferred model accordingly

The input locale identifier is a broader concept than a keyboard layout, since it can also encompass a speech-to-text converter, an Input Method Editor (IME), or any other form of input.

Select different models for each input locale.
