First shortcut press after launch fails to record/transcribe (Windows, since v0.7.9) #1143

@MuseBranch

Description

@MuseBranch

On Windows, the first time the recording shortcut is triggered after launching Handy (or after a system restart), the recording fails: no transcription is produced and the recording animation appears visually off. Triggering the shortcut a second time works correctly, and all subsequent uses in the same session work as expected.

The issue resolves itself either by waiting a few seconds after triggering and holding the shortcut or by simply pressing the shortcut again. This behavior occurs consistently on every fresh start of Handy.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start Windows / launch/relaunch Handy after quitting
  2. Trigger the recording shortcut
  3. Observe that no transcription is produced and the animation looks incorrect
  4. Trigger the shortcut again
  5. Observe that recording and transcription work correctly

Expected Behavior

The first shortcut press after launch records and transcribes successfully.

Actual Behavior

The first shortcut press fails to record or transcribe. The recording animation appears visually incorrect (see screenshot below). It also shows no audio feedback when speaking.

Additional Notes

  • This issue has been present since v7.9; it did not occur in earlier versions on Windows
  • The issue only occurs on the first trigger per session (after a fresh launch or restart)
  • Waiting a few seconds after launch before pressing the shortcut may prevent the issue

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Handy version: v0.8.0
