Is it safe to install the latest version (333) in AlmaLinux 8? Or should I stick with 310 ? #21644

Hi, The reason I ask is just because I wonder if there's a reason cockpit hasn't updated since 310, on AlmaLinux 8, RHEL 8, and CentOS 8. https://repology.org/project/cockpit/versions Has cockpit dropped support for those? Many thanks. |

It's not safe. We stopped testing cockpit main on RHEL 8 long ago, and I'm almost sure it won't work. But you can use the Flatpak, ws container or any installation from RHEL 9.6/10.0/CentOS Stream 8 or 9/Debian testing/Arch to connect to a RHEL 8 machine (without installed Cockpit). ah thanks!!! I kept looking to see if I could install Cockpit as a container, and I couldn't figure that out... I 100% prefer to have everything in docker rather than installed directly on the host, but I could understand why Cockpit requires to be installed on the host itself, since it needs full root access. Great that there is a container, and I can just connect it to a RHEL 8 host. That's very appreciated. Thank you very much 👍🏻 |
