Alderson was elected Town Moderator in the March 2025 Town Election. Outgoing Moderator Frank W. Foss, who had served for 18 years since May 2007, publicly endorsed Alderson as his successor, writing:
"I hope that come the March Town Election, voters will choose for the next town moderator Jeffrey Alderson, allowing me to pass the gavel to a worthy successor. I strongly believe Jeff will carry the gavel well in Natick and will respect the rights and privileges encumbered upon his office."
At a March 26, 2025 Select Board meeting, Foss formally handed over the town meeting gavel to Alderson in a brief ceremony.

Alderson joined the United States Air Force in 1998 after graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. He majored in electrical and computer engineering.
During his service, he was deployed to the Middle East twice — to Prince Sultan Air Base (Saudi Arabia) and Al Udeid Air Base (Qatar) — where he helped build computer systems for intelligence operations. He left the service in 2003 with the rank of captain.

In April 2026, Alderson authored a public statement on the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, connecting Natick's town meeting tradition to the nation's founding. He highlighted that on June 20, 1776 — two weeks before the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence — the people of Natick gathered in Town Meeting and unanimously adopted their own "Resolve for Independence," pledging their support with their "lives and fortunes."
He also launched the Hybrid Town Meeting Committee in fall 2025, appointing members to study and recommend a framework for hybrid (in-person and remote) town meetings in Natick, with a target of fall 2027 for implementation.
