Redesign home page with featured exhibits and full site search #483

Description

Improve usability of the home page and equity in highlighting exhibits through a redesign of the landing page.

Request from Road Map Prioritization:

Can landing page (exhibits.library.cornell.edu) be organized differently? Currently already looking quite cluttered, which will only get worse as more exhibits are added. Suggest better presentation of exhibit categories/tags (maybe with brief descriptive text?) and then show only three actual exhibit tiles, in rotation (so all exhibits have equal chance of being featured; alternatively, limit to 4 most recent exhibits).

Proposed Redesign

Changes that apply to all views of the home page

  • Landing page will be the Featured Exhibits page (see mockup below)
  • Add search bar on all home page views to search exhibit titles
  • Split tags evenly across two rows
  • Consider multiple pages if number of published exhibits > 48 (12 rows of 4 exhibits per row). At this writing, there are 44 published exhibits. Perhaps make the exhibits per page count configurable.
  • Make sure all changes work well for mobile devices

Featured Exhibits

Challenges:

  • How to determine which exhibits will be featured is TBD?
  • How to track which exhibits are featured at any given time?

Featured-Exhibits---Home-Page

All Exhibits

Exhibits will be sorted from newest to oldest.

Challenges:

  • Spotlight does not track the date an exhibit was published.

Tagged Exhibits

Exhibits will be sorted from newest to oldest within the set of tagged exhibits.
