How does someone stop an ongoing backup?

This a n00b question i know, but so far I have done this by simply stopping the script and then rewriting the lock file to false so force a stop. However, I have noticed that a check command in CLI can't be executed correctly.

I noticed an issue where I added another location and the yml file did not pick up the changes and was still backing up the single location.
