Alternative containers to MECA #10

Description

@rowanc1

(Relaying some of the things learned from Jeff Beck (@jeffbeckncbi) in todays meeting, more to come)

He suggested at least exploring alternative containers to MECA:

Something I have come across recently is OMEX in bioinformatics (this is more scoped to the modelling, not the manuscript):
https://bmcbioinformatics.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12859-014-0369-z
https://authors.library.caltech.edu/54463/1/s12859-014-0369-z.pdf

I mention OMEX as something to be compatible with, and see if we can avoid trampling on the namespace as there is a manifest.xml used in that scheme, and the file seems to have some uptake in the biomedical space.
