Near Future Tense

Le futur proche (the near future)

The (near) future is formed by:

  • the verb “aller” in the present tense
  • followed by the infinitive of the main verb

Examples

French English
Christine va partir dans deux secondes Christine will leave in two seconds
Elle va aller au supermarché Elle va aller au supermarché

It can be translated to mean “I am going to”

The near future is used when:

  • something is “near”, going to happen soon
  • something is almost certain: it is going to happen
