@logtape/syslog in edge runtime

Do you think that the Syslog sink may be available in the edge runtime ?

Thank you for your interest in using @logtape/syslog in edge runtime environments!

Currently, @logtape/syslog does not officially support edge runtimes like Cloudflare Workers or Vercel Edge Functions. The package relies on Node.js-specific modules for network communication:

• node:net for TCP connections
• node:dgram for UDP connections
• node:os for hostname detection

That said, recent Cloudflare Workers environments now support node:net through their Node.js compatibility layer. This means the TCP mode (protocol: "tcp") might actually work in Cloudflare Workers if you enable the nodejs_compat compatibility flag. However, I haven't tested this myself yet, and UDP mode would still be unavailable since node:dgram is not supported in edge environments.

To help me better understand your use case and prioritize this work:

1. Which edge runtime are you targeting—Cloudflare Workers, Vercel Edge, or another?
2. Would TCP protocol support be sufficient for your needs, or do you specifically require UDP?
3. Have you already tried using it with nodejs_compat enabled?

If TCP support in Cloudflare Workers is your primary goal, I'd be happy to investigate whether the current implementation works as-is or needs adjustments. For broader edge runtime support, we would need to implement alternative approaches that don't rely on Node.js-specific networking modules.
