Question: Removing background based on location or specific color?

Hello,

Is there any way of removing background from an image based on a specific color, color range or contiguous color area without destroying what needs to stay. For example, I tested removing the white background of an image but only the majority of the background was removed. I wasn't able to remove the remaining white background--trying with different models--due to the complexity/variety/similarity of the color patterns of the main image.
