+AutoBus was a Swedish-Norwegian prestudy on automated buses in urban traffic, carried out by RISE together with Borås Stad, Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm and Lørenskog kommune. The project evaluated whether small automated electric buses could complement existing public transport in two medium-sized Nordic municipalities, with case studies in Borås and Lørenskog. The work analysed possible routes and applications, transport benefits, integration with mixed traffic, legal and regulatory conditions, technical and operational risks, and conditions for public acceptance. The prestudy concluded that automated buses could be feasible in both municipalities and recommended further pilot demonstrations, while highlighting the need for reliable operation, risk reduction, stakeholder acceptance and continued experience-building.
