Unauthorized not redirecting me to authenticate

I attempted to login to the staff portal and was given a generic error page that indicated something went wrong. I checked grafana and noticed the logs from the staff portal were complaining about a 401 error when calling the get user endpoint for my user. Clicking refresh / back home would just refresh the screen. I ended up clearing my cookies after realizing it was a 401 error and likely needed to re-authenticate.

Questions

• Does the portal redirect the user to authenticate if it gets a 401 error from the API?
• Why don't I see this error show up in sentry?
