Category Modes Extension

This fork adds category-based application launcher modes to Rofi, allowing you to filter applications by standard FreeDesktop.org categories with clickable buttons.

Category Modes

• Apps - All applications (no filter)
• Accessories - Utility tools and accessories
• Development - Programming and development tools
• Graphics - Image editors, viewers, and graphics applications
• Multimedia - Audio/Video players and media applications
• Office - Office suites, productivity, and document tools
• System - System administration and monitoring tools
• Settings - Configuration and settings applications
• Internet - Web browsers, email clients, and communication apps

Usage

Launch Rofi with category modes:

rofi -show Apps -modi 'Apps,Accessories,Development,Internet,Graphics,Multimedia,Office,System,Settings'

Category buttons will appear in the mode-switcher at the bottom of the window. Click any category to filter applications by that category.

With Theme

To enable the mode-switcher in your theme, ensure your theme's mainbox includes mode-switcher:

mainbox {
    children: [ inputbar, listview, mode-switcher ];
}

I have also incuded my theme in the themes directory - everforest-categories.rasi
