CW Academy Training Mode - Added Features

Overview

Added comprehensive CW Academy training mode based on the CWops Beginner CW Curriculum (Rev 4.2.8.1).

What Was Added

1. New Training Module (src/cw_academy_training.rs)

  • Complete training data for Sessions 1-10 from CW Academy curriculum
  • Session progression from basic (A E N T) to full alphabet plus numbers and prosigns
  • Six practice types per session:
    • Characters
    • Words
    • CW Abbreviations
    • Numbers
    • Callsigns
    • Phrases

2. Training Content by Session

Session 1 (4 chars): A E N T Session 2 (9 chars): + S I O 1 4 Session 3 (15 chars): + D H L R 2 5 Session 4 (17 chars): + C U Session 5 (22 chars): + M W 3 6 ? Session 6 (25 chars): + F Y , Session 7 (31 chars): + G P Q 7 9 / Session 8 (34 chars): + B V Session 9 (39 chars): + J K 0 8 Session 10 (44 chars): + X Z .

3. GUI Integration

Added new "CW Academy Training Mode" section with:

  • Enable/Disable training mode toggle
  • Session selector (dropdown with all 10 sessions)
  • Practice type selector (Characters, Words, Abbreviations, Numbers, Callsigns, Phrases)
  • Large, prominent display of current training item
  • "Next Item" button for random selection from current session/type
  • Helpful instruction text

4. Features

  • Random Selection: Items are randomly selected from the chosen practice type
  • Progressive Learning: Sessions build on previous sessions
  • Visual Feedback: Training items displayed in large yellow text
  • Easy Navigation: Dropdown menus for session and practice type selection
  • Seamless Integration: Works alongside existing paddle decoder functionality

How to Use

  1. Enable Training Mode: Click "Enable Training" button
  2. Select Session: Choose your current CW Academy session (1-10)
  3. Select Practice Type: Choose what to practice (Characters, Words, etc.)
  4. Practice: Send the displayed item using your paddle
  5. Next Item: Click "Next Item" button for a new random item

Training Workflow

  1. Start with Session 1, Characters
  2. Practice each character until confident
  3. Move to Words, then Abbreviations
  4. Progress through sessions as you learn new characters
  5. Use Phrases for realistic QSO practice

Technical Details

  • Dependencies Added: rand = "0.8" for random item selection
  • Module Structure: Clean separation of training data from main decoder logic
  • State Management: Training state integrated into existing AppState structure
  • Performance: Minimal overhead when training mode is disabled
