Description
What
There was a request for design advice on a pattern for asking if the home address is different from the mailing address. It would make forms easier to fill out if they could skip adding one of the addresses if they are the same address. This might be a pattern that is used on different forms and could be added to the VADS. You can see slack thread for more context.
This might also have a connection to changing the default address in your profile, if that is a something we do.
Purpose
Many forms probably have a mailing address and a home address option. This would help Designers create a consistent experience between forms and eliminate the guess work with the different options in this situation if we can provide guidance on how to implement this pattern in the Design System.
Details
When this pattern was presented at a design council meeting one of the issues that was questioned was what to do with the step indicator? If the address is different than a extra step is added to the process. Two solutions were presented
- Increase the step count depending on the choice made
- Include both the question and the additional step of adding a separate address in the mailing address step so the progress indicator isn't advancing during this process.
To do
- Evaluate the current design being used to ask users if the mailing address and home address are the same.
- Create a design in the patterns Figma library
- Create guidance on the VADS site
