Limits of Threshold

Can you help better define how the Threshold work?

I tried to lower the bar here and ask for only 1 item and a min of 1, but I still got a No consensus could be reached.

@skilesare Thank you for creating the issue. From the documentation for ConsensusStrategy:

Defines a consensus strategy for combining responses from different providers.

The consensus strategy actually defines how to combine results from different RPC providers, i.e. the providers specified in the RpcSources argument to the SOL RPC canister endpoints.

What you are observing is that the replicas in the subnet are unable to achieve consensus on the response to the HTTP outcall to one of the RPC providers you are querying.

As a side note, I tried querying the account info from the same address with dfx and it seemed to work for me. Which RPC provider are you querying?

I believe this is just using the default - mainnet variant. I think I ended up getting things to work with a total of ?3 and min of 1, but not quite sure how things may work. If you do ?1 and 1, does it pick randomly from the set of 6 available? I'm not sure what that particular one failed, but I'm guessing maybe it picked one of the more rate limited items rocs and there was an error? Or maybe it was just off line. It is frustrating that it is difficult to get insight into exact what is retrieved by all the replicas. (Maybe it is easy and I just don't know how). It would be great if it kept a rolling log you could retrieve for up to 10 minutes or something.

I also tried doing just a min of 1 with a null total and got an error that total was required. If I put 3 is it picking 3 random items?

I need to refactor and add in the supported varied and be more explicit about what I want to use, but am being a bit lazy as it requires a migration because I missed the variant and assumed it was the same format as the evm RPC.

Some docs on the behavior of what happens functionally across a range of combinations of total/min would be helpful!

At the end of the day I successfully migrated a solana NFT to the IC!

Do you happen to know about the selection process? Is it randomized or is it deterministic which end points get used if I use a total of 3?
