TaDiRAH Community Workflow and Collaborative Development

Background

The Taxonomy of Digital Research Activities in the Humanities (TaDiRAH) has a long and collaborative history. Over the years, it has grown through international cooperation, interdisciplinary exchange, and the engagement of numerous contributors from the Digital Humanities community.

TaDiRAH is now entering a new phase focused on collaborative and sustainable further development. Core concepts and initial language versions are already available. The current goal is to strengthen community participation, consolidate existing expertise, and jointly shape the next stages of development.

The long-term objectives include:

  • sustainable maintenance and governance
  • international interoperability
  • transparent versioning and documentation
  • expansion of multilingual support
  • stronger integration into DH infrastructures and research workflows

Community Participation

We explicitly understand the further development of TaDiRAH as a collaborative community process.

We invite interested contributors to participate through:

  • feedback and conceptual discussions
  • editorial and content-related contributions
  • translations and language adaptations
  • technical support and review
  • discussion of terminology, structures, and use cases
  • networking and dissemination activities

Participation is possible even without advanced technical expertise. Supporting documentation and onboarding materials will be provided.

GitHub Workflow

The technical and conceptual development of TaDiRAH is coordinated transparently via GitHub.

Main collaboration channels:

Proposals, revisions, and structural changes are documented, discussed, and versioned openly.

Suggested workflow:

  1. Open a discussion for ideas, questions, or conceptual proposals
  2. Reach community consensus where possible
  3. Implement changes via pull requests
  4. Review contributions collaboratively
  5. Merge and document accepted revisions

Language Versions and Translations

Existing language versions require active maintainers and contact persons who can support:

  • coordination of updates
  • revision of translations
  • conceptual consistency across languages
  • communication with contributors

We are interested in maintaining, revising, and further developing all existing language versions of TaDiRAH.

At the same time, we aim to expand the taxonomy through additional translations and language adaptations. Current expansion efforts particularly include:

  • Polish (PL)
  • Turkish (TR)

Contributors interested in supporting existing language versions, participating in new translations, or joining as an editor for a specific language are warmly invited to participate in the initiative.

Mailing List and Communication

Interested community members are encouraged to subscribe to the TaDiRAH mailing list in order to stay informed about:

  • ongoing revisions
  • translation activities
  • workshops and community meetings
  • release updates
  • future collaboration opportunities

Workshops and Future Activities

Further activities currently planned or under discussion include:

  • thematic workshops
  • conference contributions
  • community meetings
  • collaborative proposals
  • strategic discussions on sustainability and governance

These activities are intended to strengthen networking, exchange, and long-term community building around TaDiRAH.

Institutional Support

TaDiRAH is currently supported by the German data competence centers:

These initiatives help increase visibility, foster exchange between projects and communities, and support sustainable long-term development.

Their involvement also contributes to identifying future pathways for institutional anchoring and sustainability of TaDiRAH activities.
