Markdown support not working when pasting MD text

When I type markdown in the editor, the conversion works without problem, but when I copy and paste it, I still see the Markdown code instead of the intended style.

First of all, the issue occurred with Firefox developer edition for Linux with my default profile. In the meantime I tried it with Chromium and Firefox release edition with another profile. So it seems that something on my side triggers the issue. The error shows up with any MD, like

## Heading 2

**bold**<br>
*italic*

I’m going to try to figure out what’s the difference between the setups.
