After a 3-week hiatus of using "crostini", I am thrilled to have installed crouton on my Chromebook again! There is so much I can do with a Linux desktop that I can never do in penguin: process CDs and DVDs, set up a music studio, and more.
To keep life as simple as possible for myself, I'm using the Chromebrew enhancement packages, including the one called crew_sudo. This latter runs in the background and intercepts calls to sudo, making sudo work in the crosh shell once again. It requires only that I log into VT-2 once after each boot to activate the daemon. After that, I log out of VT-2 and spend the rest of my time in the crosh shell.
I'm happily running LXDE using the focal release. LXDE requires a few special hacks to make it run smoothly, and would recommend that most users stick to running good old faithful: XFCE.
