toolbox version for linux

I know that sounds weird, but we have a diversified development team working with Macs, Windows and Linux.
Today we're not able to create a only tutorial for all team, because for Mac and Windows one thing, but to linux must be different (no toolbox on it).
So, to simplify this kind of situation, would be great to have a toolbox version to linux also!

There is some irony in two statements in the project's README.md.

• "Toolbox is currently unavailable for Linux".
• "[VirtualBox] is bundled in case you want to have a working environment for free."

I'm glad to see "Linux support (help wanted)" in ROADMAP.md.

So to me it seems pretty useless to have an issue without a list of things that need to be done. Here are some ideas to bootstrap some discussion.

So just to make it clear: what is Docker Toolbox ?

Am I correct to assume it's an installer for:

• VirtualBox
• docker
• docker-compose
• docker-machine
• Kitematic

All of them have a Linux version these days (Kitematic was the last one I think, but that now exists for less than a month).

So if I download 5 .deb files (and possible dependencies) on a Debian/Ubuntu-derived system and installed it I would be done ?

And if I wanted updates and dependencies handling the best way would be to set up a repository with those deb's, right ? And the same applies to rpm ? You can even sign the packages. And that could also handle updating an old VirtualBox which was already installed.

This seems like a pretty good to do list for that:

• have a build system in place for the packages
• have a build system in place for the repositories
• some proper documentation how to add the repository to the system through GUI and CLI.
• bonus: a GUI frontend (Toolbox) which does the same which talks to GUI-frontend of sudo to ask for root permissions and does the same steps that are already mentioned in the documentation.

Does that sound about right ?
