Describe the bug

I had .NetCore installed on fedora 37 but whatever I execute I get "the specified command or file was not found. Possible reasons for this include", so I removed naything related to dotnet using
sudo dnf remove dotnet*
which was succesful, then I issued
sudo dnf install dotnet-sdk-7.0
which was succesful. When I tried
dotnet --version
I get

A fatal error was encountered. The library 'libhostpolicy.so' required to execute the application was not found in '/usr/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App/7.0.4'.

Install dotnet sdk 7 on Fedora 37

What do you have in /usr/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App/7.0.4? Specifically, does /usr/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App/7.0.4/libhostpolicy.so exist? I believe the host is looking in the correct place - hostpolicy should have been put there by the installer.

elinor, there is no such file, there are so many directories at
/usr/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App
but no one contains this file

Can you check if you have /etc/dotnet/install_location and what's in it? (There also might be install_location_x64 or similar, so check those as well).

It's weird that none of them has hostpolicy, that's part of the runtime. Unless something is messed up in the packages.
Does anybody know if fedora uses source-built packages, or we publish it to the package manager? @agocke

My only idea would be to start over - so manually delete everything in /usr/share/dotnet and install just 7.0 again. And then check what's on disk.

This is what I did yesterday,
sudo dnf remove dotnet*
then
sudo dnf install dotnet-sdk-7.0

when you say "install just 7.0", using what? DNF or not? If I delete manualy and ont uise DNF, in case I need to upgrade fedora version lets to 38 I will have some issues if I am not mistaken

The remove apparently didn't remove everything - since the there are folders other than 7.* in there. That's why I suggested manually deleting the files.

Personally I know very little about package managers on Linux, so we'll probably need somebody with more experience in that area to chime in here.

Also, I forgot to mention that no single file exisits in all those directories, they are all empty

and so on
