@aortiz-msft @JonDouglas @nkolev92 The template lives in our repo but I feel the NuGet team should drive what changes should be here. What should be controlled by a new template property versus what should be a change in default behavior.

Audit I believe should use nuget.org automatically.

This is difficult. This feature doesn't really add any value until 2+ sources.

Given templates are the absolute most basic getting started point, this would not be the case.

If people want a best practice nuget.config template, that might be a different story. We could easily alter this existing nuget.config to include it, but I am afraid it will add more confusion with that behavior change.
