Repro steps
Install net 10 preview 2 SDK: 10.0.100-preview.2.25125.14.exe on win11-x64
Downloading and extracting the zip(dotnet-sdk-10.0.100-preview.2.25125.14-win-x64.zip) archive of the .NET SDK
Use ToolWidff--see the difference after uncheck ‘identical files’
Running a folder diff on the extracted SDK and the install folder to make sure that everything matches

Expected Result:
All files are identical

Actual Result:
Some files aren't identical

Triage: Confirmed that .net 9 zip installs included the cross-targeting app hosts. Talking this over, the app hosts can be downloaded on the fly and excluding them from the zip would reduce the size. We could leave them in the installers as it may help in VS for offline scenarios.

@MichaelSimons @leecow @richlander do we know what the various other package versions of .NET SDK installs do? Can we make an intentional decision here to have the admin install bundle these but not include them inthe zip to save a little space? Any memory of the reason we did it this way before?

Joeloff found the email about it. The primary scenario for this is c++/CLI within VS as they can't download the apphost on the fly. If we removed this from the zip, we'd break if someone had a no-download environment (not sure if that's a priority) or if you're trying to use a zip install with VS and c++/CLI (not sure if that's a priority either). Thoughts folks? We can add this back but each one is 10MB so that's a nice size savings.
