Add option to change first day of the week?

Currently, it seems like the first day of the week is assumed to be Monday (as per Ruby's default behavior when using Date's week-based calculations). Where I'm from, the first day of the week is Sunday. How can I change this?

On a US calendar where I live the Sunday is the start of the week. But I’d ignored that because I’d structured the pages assuming 5 work days starting on Monday. The combined weekend page was added later.

If the week starts for you on Sunday how would you want the pages to work? Full pair of pages for each day of the week?
