Error at runtime regarding binding paramter with Postgresql DB

Controller:

void ProductController::products(
    const HttpRequestPtr &req,
    std::function<void(const HttpResponsePtr &)> &&callback, long &&catid) {

The query

stringstream sqls("");
sqls << "SELECT * FROM products Where categoryid=$1";
auto result = clientPtr->execSqlSync(sqls.str(),catid);

results in this error:

ERROR:  incorrect binary data format in bind parameter 1
CONTEXT:  unnamed portal parameter $1

As regards $?, as suggested by a developer, I get this error:

ERROR:  syntax error at or near "$"
LINE 1: SELECT * FROM products Where categoryid=$? 

This method works, anyway:

stringstream sqls("");
sqls << "SELECT * FROM products Where categoryid=" << catid;
auto result = clientPtr->execSqlSync(sqls.str());

So what is the best / proper method to pass to the query?

You are right!!

Postgres field size: smallint
(changed all smallint to integer in tables)

In Controller.h && Controller.cc: it was ** long &&catid**
changed to: int &&catid and it worked

Similarly modified in other controllers.
