Chore: Free-up Bimby Extras Storage Cupboard

The highest value real estate (cupboard) in our kitchen is currently being used for “Bimby Extras”:

These extras are used once a week on average.
We cannot justify using up this space for these items.
Yes, they are “high value”, but the infrequent use means they could be placed somewhere else and the space ceded to higher frequency use items; plates + bowls!
(Which are currently stored on the other side of the kitchen … ⏳)

We have unused space in the extractor cupboard:

By making a shelf in this space, we could shift the extras up here and free-up the prime floor-level space directly in front of the dishwashers.

I expect this task to take T1h and use existing materials from the workshop.

internal Width of the extractor cupboard is 565mm
Depth is 353mm.
I will re-measure for the extractor ducting in-situ once I have the board cut to these constraints. 👌

The internal dimensions (excluding door) of the Bimby Extras Cupboard are:

Width: 365
Depth: 353
Height: 777

My plan is to head to IKEA soon to check if they have wire drawers we can install for transforming this cupboard into our plates & bowls storage system. 👌

@iteles I came to IKEA to get a quick quote for updating the “Bimby Extras” Cupboard to be drawers:

The two options presented are:

1. Keep the existing door and install internal drawers.
2. Cancel the door and install 5 drawers that open independently.

I feel like the second option is better in terms of workflow efficiency and ease of finding items.
But it costs more and will “break” the visual continuity.

Question: do you want me to explain this to you in-person or can I just move forward with the option that will pay for itself in the time it saves? 💭

This is a ridiculous amount of money for drawers. From a business standpoint it makes no sense. It's not a deep cupboard and we can just use the shelves for storing plates.

However, if I was living here full time, I would definitely have individual drawers (not internal ones).

I have emptied the cupboard this morning. Ready for cleaning tomorrow and testing as a location for the plates.
