After a while search becomes very slow until refresh

When my website (https://docs.port.io) is left open in a tab for a while, typing a search query causes the spinner to spin for a long time (~15 seconds) before showing any results. This reproduces all the time, for example when leaving a tab open overnight and returning to it in the morning.
When I refresh the page it seems to improve the time dramatically.

Could it be some memory leak?

The search-index.json of your website (https://docs.port.io/) is extremely large (30 MB), plus compressing is not configured.

I suggest:

• Enable compressing first.
• Check if any unwanted content is indexed, and ignore it from indexing by setting ignoreFiles .
• Or try searchContextByPaths.
• Or try using a backend based search provider if you really need that size of indexed content.

You should enable compression in your http server, not by our plugin options.
