Hello,

with version 2.9.0 I get the error

Write output files.. Error: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ‘type’)

but I don't get it with version 2.6.0

In both cases, I'm using node v18.19.1.

With node v22.0 and echogarden 2.9.0, I get the same error.

the command line is:

echogarden align audio/audrey.wav patients/audrey/cleaned.txt patients/audrey/audrey.json patients/audrey/audrey.srt --language=en --crop=false

Can you help me?

Not sure, but looks it could be the timeline generated could have invalid entries.

Can you try to run the same, but without the .srt output?

echogarden align audio/audrey.wav patients/audrey/cleaned.txt patients/audrey/audrey.json --language=en --crop=false

If that doesn't produce an error, try to look in the audrey.json file to see if there is some entry there that is invalid.

Anyway, there's a new major version (v3.0.0) generally ready for publication (currently still being tested), and I may have fixed some issues along the way that could be related, but I may have not.

The best way for me to diagnose and fix this is to try it myself (locally) with the exact files that are producing the issue (audrey.wav and cleaned.txt). If possible to upload here or send in some other way, that would help a lot.

I'm having this exact issue (and it was working flawlessly before). JSON export works fine, but SRT and VTT give me that same error message. Is there any sort of temporary fix I could use? Besides downgrading the package?

Never mind. It won't even let me install any version older than the 2.8 series, and that still gives me the same error. Downgrading is not an option for me.

I only now noticed the files added to the last message by @sorin-moga-tb (it was edited after I first saw it).

I downloaded the files. I'm not seeing any issue occurring with v3.0.0 (unreleased). It could be I fixed the issue at some point. I'll need to investigate more.

@nerdictranslator: if you have files / command lines that trigger the issue, then you can share them here if you want.

Note: The archive has the mp3 version of the audio, but I had this problem with both the .wav and .mp3 versions. I don't think it's the audio, necessarily... but I'm no dev.

Oh, and the command: echogarden align aita.mp3 aita.txt result.srt

I also tried it with specifying the language, tried it with the whisper model, tried it with crop=false... all the same thing.

Thanks. It seemed fixed in v3.0.0 so I tested with v2.9.0 as well and reproduced it there.

I fixed it in v3.0.0. In src/subtitles/Subtitles.ts I changed:

			if (config.mode == 'segment') {

To

	for (const entry of timeline) {
		if (entry.type === 'segment' && entry.timeline?.[0]?.type === 'sentence') {
			if (config.mode === 'segment') {

Basically, the subtitle conversion failed when there was an empty segment, so adding .[0]?.type fixed it.

I could apply the fix to the older v2.9.x branch, so you don't have to wait for the full v3.0.0 release. I'll need to see how I can do that.
