In video details: Clicking on the thumbnail of a video leads to different pages depending on referencing pages

When I am on the video details page of a video, and I hit on the thumbnail shown in the upper left corner, I get directed to...

a) ... the "direct link" to the video: When there is no referencing page or two or more referencing pages.
b) ... to the video on the referencing page: When there is precisely one referencing page.

This can confuse users. Well, at least I was confused when I clicked on the thumbnail.

I see two possible solutions:
a) Play the video instead of directing users anywhere. > My favorite. That's what I assumed would happen, because when hovering over, a play icon appears in the thumbnail.
b) Direct users to the "direct link" to the video.

I understand and share that intuition. Not sure if that's easiliy doable (it might be), but another thing to note on that:

• The navigation box on the left should feature a link to the video page (and here I wouldn't mind changing it to always be a direct link).

My reasoning for this is that, yes, "Video details" does have link(s) to the video page, but when I'm on the much beloved "Technical details" or the upcoming "Access policy" page (these use the same navigation box), I don't want to take a detour to get to the video page.

So if we were to do (a), we should also do (b), maybe by making the title below the video act as the link instead of the thumbnail.
Or we just do option (b), which would be considerably less work.

Playing the video in that tiny area will give us more of #1276

But yeah, the current behavior is probably not great. The problem is that we would prefer people share videos "with realm context" so that the receiving users have nice navigation (instead of just the top level navigation). However, once the video is included in two realms, we have a problem. We cannot randomly pick one. And trying to explain this to users and giving them the choice all the time seems like "uhg what I just want to share the video, why do I need to read a text?!".
