Preflight Checklist

  • I have read the contribution documentation for this project.
  • I agree to follow the code of conduct that this project follows, as appropriate.
  • I have searched the issue tracker for a feature request that matches the one I want to file, without success.

Problem Description

Currently setting name or executableName in config will change both name of output file and the name displayed in the system (docker and toolbar on macOS, taskbar on Windows). We need to make the names in these two use cases different.

Proposed Solution

Add a displayName field to the config. On macOS this value will be set to CFBundleName and CFBundleDisplayName in info.plist. On Windows this value will be set to FileDescription field metadata of the executable. This field will fallback to the name field if not specified.

Alternatives Considered

Allow the extendInfo config field to override CFBundleName and CFBundleDisplayName on macOS, like the win32metadata config field on Windows. This is the solution described in #387.

Additional Information

I do not know how to set the display name on Linux. Need more info on this.
