How to restart gala when running as a Wayland compositor?

Following https://github.com/elementary/gala/wiki/Experimenting-with-Wayland, I was able to get gala running under Wayland.

Unfortunately it seems like the --replace option is not available anymore.

What is the alternative workflow when working on gala now? Is there a better way than login out and in again every time the code is recompiled?
