Is there a way to connect to a IRC network without the buffers being switched?

Hello!

I stopped using elpy long time ago, but I started using Circe, @jorgenschaefer, and I personally think that anything Emacs created/maintained by you means that such project have to be good!

Regarding my question: I would simply like to fire irc but avoid the switching of buffers. That's all!

There is no built-in way in Circe to change this behavior (there used to be, but it turned out that the various situations were too complicated and solutions were never entirely right). Circe just uses pop-to-buffer to display buffers. You can use display-buffer-alist to change the behavior of that function.

With shackle it's relatively simple:

and after M-x irc RET I get this error:

ad-Advice-select-window: Wrong type argument: window-live-p, nil

At least no IRC channel or server popups on my current window :D, but that error described above is weird.

First, :popup is the wrong action if you want to switch buffers, second, if you match multiple modes, you need to put these into a list:

Uh, no, I don't want Circe to switch my buffers when I use the irc command, using :same t do not
help me achieve that.
