Learners break down their chosen issue(s) into actionable parts, creating diagrams, storyboards, or other notes to plan their approach. This planning phase builds the foundation for implementation and helps anticipate challenges. It is intended to span two one-hour facilitated sessions or approximately two hours of independent work.

Goals:

• Break down the selected issue(s) into actionable steps
• Draft a design or implementation approach

Guiding Questions:

• What does success look like for this feature or fix?
• What dependencies or systems might be affected?

For Facilitators:

• Host planning sessions
• Encourage sketching flowcharts, diagrams, or logic structures
• Remind learners to attach all planning documentation to the issue they have selected on the backlog
