🚨 Important Notice: Git History Rewrite Coming

Hi all,

We’re planning to rewrite the Git history of the jax2onnx repository to permanently remove the large docs/onnx/ folder and reduce repository size.
This rewrite will affect all commits, branches, and tags, and will require everyone to synchronize or re-clone the repository afterward.

📅 Deadline: by Tuesday, 1 June, 20:00 CEST

✅ What you need to do before the deadline:

1. Push all your local branches and tags to GitHub:

   git push --all
   git push --tags

2. Back up any local work (commit or stash anything in progress).

3. Avoid pushing new changes after 20:00 CEST on June 1 until we confirm the rewrite is done.

🔁 What will happen:

• We will rewrite the full history to remove docs/onnx/

• A force-push will overwrite the current remote

• After the rewrite, you will need to:

  • Either re-clone the repository, or

  • Run:

    git fetch
    git reset --hard origin/main
    git clean -fdx

You’ll get a confirmation message once everything is complete.

All *.onnx files have now been completely removed from the Git history. These files are only available locally and on Hugging Face going forward.

To be on the safe side, I recommend re-cloning your local repository — that’s what I did as well.
