https://help.ente.io/photos/troubleshooting/thumbnails The documentation seems like it's just a fact of life that users will have to do this workaround. It's completely infeasible in my case; thousands and thousands of images don't have thumbnails. (I didn't use FF to upload them, I used the Ente app.) I request that you rethink your stance on "that's just how it is" and actually fix the bug. |

Hi. Ente had or has a bug where some uploads didn't get their thumbnails generated. I uploaded a 300GB 15+ year library and a few thousand images (out of my 119k images) are missing their thumbnails.
It's not feasible for me to go through thousands and thousands of images and cull them and re-upload these images. As this is due to a bug in Ente, I shouldn't have to invest many hours of my time to fix this bug.
Please make one of the clients (mobile or desktop, I don't care) automatically re-generate and re-upload thumbnails when it notices that some images are missing their thumbnails. This has been a constant daily thorn in my side for years now; so many of my images are just black squares on the tile view sheet. :( :(
You've already got thumbnail generation code there in the upload code path, and it's relatively straightforward to detect when an image for which you have metadata is missing its thumbnails. A little queue of 5 or 10 items that quietly download-regenerate-upload is all that it would take to fix this.
