Observability for proxy

Hi,
I want to enable metrics for envoy pod data plane. I tried to add this in my EnvoyProxy:

but no new metrics port or path is open. I have a metrics port for control plane.
I dont want to use gateway add ons because i already have prometheus and grafana so i just want to expose metrics of my data plane pod.

it's exposed on 19001 by default out of box.

can you just try to port-forward 19001 on the dataplane pod, and then curl localhost:19001/stats/prometheus

Yes indeed it works, thanks ! But i need the port open in the svc so my prometheus instances can query this port. Because i use a central prometheus for my clusters and so i dont want the prometheus deployed by add ons

I recalled we add some annotations one the deployment/pod, so prometheus should respect it by default.

I managed to create a service for each proxy which is good for me, could you add a param to be able to do this automatically for exposing metrics in proxy svc ?

I don't think it's a good idea to expose metrics servcie through LB(which is the default type of service).
Prometheus can do pod discovery.
