rethink the print_config() method

print_config() just prints out a list of some of the set variables and some of the imported values. Created mostly for debugging and you do not have to use it in a pipeline, but there could be better ways of doing this, so we should look into possibilities for creating something more wholesome or in line with "best practices".

Creating the issue to brainstorm ideas, and then we can update the issue as we figure out a better way to do this...

I think it does not hurt to keep a few functions like this, especially for key objects like the core config. But would it make more sense to implement the __str__ dunder method? (i.e., instead of a free function)
