Hello, I recently added a couple more under the "polyphonic_examples" directory at the root of the repo. Additionally, I added a "midi_to_ptttl.py" python script which can convert multi-track MIDI files to PTTTL format, which enables you to compose more complex songs using any music composition software that outputs MIDI files. If you don't have any software that outputs MIDI files, you can use an online MIDI editor like https://signalmidi.app/

This is above and beyond, what I was exactly wanting to create (the midi converter)! I just didn't know where to start. Wonderful job.

I ported your code to ESPHome and was building a "Tone Studio Editor" for it on github.

Hopefully I can port your midi converter in it!

I have not uploaded the PTTTL upgrade to it. I was having a lot of trouble getting it to keep the layout of the notation system. When importing and exporting in the proper format.

Any suggestions for the ESPHome Component and Tone Studio, to make it easier for anyone to make PTTTL. Would be greatly appreciated or maybe I am not handling something properly, please inform me.

The midi import will be a great leg up for most users hopefully to get started generating tones.

I'm not musically inclined, but I love playing with digital sound stuff. So even simple things you may notice, I probably wouldn't have thought of, would be good comments, to make it easier for people that do understand music composition like yourself. To use the Tone Studio to create something.

This is very cool, nice work! I will play around with your Tone Studio when I have some time. If you want some resources for testing your PTTTL parser, I have a large number of test cases here used by the test suite for my own PTTTL parser:

Certainly not exhaustive but they do cover some edge cases that are useful to test.

@NonaSuomy maybe you already considered this and you just wanted to write your own PTTTL parser, which is totally fair, but it looks like you would be able to use my PTTTL parser as-is in the ESPHome component:

You should only need the following files for your case:

• ptttl_parser.c/h
• ptttl_sample_generator.c/h
• ptttl_common.h

the parser has a fairly flexible interface for obtaining input, and there is a sample application that shows how to read PTTTL source from a buffer in memory, and generate signed 16-bit samples in arbitrary sized chunks, which should be suitable for the I2S interface you are using:

There is another sample application that shows how to configure the sample generator for a specific sample rate (default is 44.1KHz), which might also be useful since it looks like your PTTTL component currently uses a sample rate of 16KHz:

One advantage of doing this is that I've already put a fairly large amount of time into testing & fuzzing this parser, so you would get that for free. It's not doing any dynamic memory allocation (malloc) and requires a fairly small amount of static memory (the ptttl_parser_t and ptttl_sample_generator_t structs both have an array of objects to represent note channels, the number of which is configurable and fixed at compile time, and the buffer you create yourself to hold the generated samples), so it should be pretty well suited to a low-memory embedded platform.
