I've been maintaining a pkg overlay for FreeBSD since summer of 2025, so that I can build projects pinned to specific versions of Elixir and Erlang... I've been bitten in the past by versions of lang/elixir-dev changing outside of my control. I build for 14.3 and 15.0.

I would be very happy for this to move upstream and to be maintained by more than just myself.

These days I'm building aarch64 in qemu running on an M3 Mac with lots of cores, and amd64 on an 8-core bare metal server running on OVH. The aarch64 takes about an hour for the entire build process, while amd64 takes over an hour per arch.

I use that action to build my application releases (example: https://gist.github.com/sax/c790482d51b5a6a1b240c87b87517f08). It's great!

Building each OTP is so slow and has so many long pauses without output that I've been holding off on CI so far... but I also see this, which says it works when each port takes less than 6 hours to build: https://github.com/trombik/poudriere-build/blob/main/.github/workflows/poudriere.yml. May be fun to play around with, with some very long iteration times.
