Issue or Suggestion Description

I am testing the Echo Ear board using an OpenAI API key. The conversational bot works as expected, including tool calls (e.g., checking time and date).

However, in roughly 90% of the interactions, the board interrupts its own response and begins replying to itself. This seems related to insufficient suppression of its own audio output.

Is there an available workaround or an easy way to improve rejection of the device’s self-generated audio?

Hi @FBEZ,

This issue is caused by excessive volume. Please try to turn down the volume. In the latest v0.2.3 firmware version, the maximum volume that users can set has also been restricted for this reason.

Hi @Lzw655, thank you for the quick reply.

I tried lowering the volume to a barely audible level and also updated to the suggested firmware version 0.2.3, but unfortunately I didn’t notice any improvement.

I also attempted to capture the audio output by placing my hand over the speaker to isolate it, but it seems the feedback path is inside the enclosure itself. I tested in several very quiet locations, with no success.

I’m using the version with the molded injection case (i.e. not 3d printed one).
Is there any plan for an updated firmware version that could address this issue?
