There is a <portal> spec proposal in the works that functions a lot like Exokit's reality tabs -- which are positionable, detachable 3d <iframe>s with full messaging but no dom access -- much like portals.

Would it make sense for us to adopt the tag and/or terminology?

Yeah, I really like the interface it provides.

I especially like this wording:
