Icon=always behaviour

What exactly does this flag do? I'm asking because it sort of gives the impression that it displays icons for all subsequent eza calls, while in generality, it does not.

The possible values for the icons flag are always, auto, and ever, where the default is "never" and passing --icons is interpreted the same as --icons=auto.
A quick check I did seems to suggest that when you pass --icons=always, icons are always included even when eza output is piped or going to a file, whereas with --icons=auto icons are only printed when eza prints to stdout.
